Have you ever come home from a vacation, long work trip, or a weekend away and found the temperature in your house has risen several degrees? It turns out the air conditioner has failed. You are tired from a long trip and ready to sleep, but since it is so hot in your home you are uncomfortable and extremely hot. This is an awful feeling and one that could and should be avoided. There are several things that you can do to make sure that this does not happen.

1. Annual Tune-up. One of the most important things that you can do is to make sure that you have a professional air conditioner repair company, like Neffsville Plumbing & Heating Services, come to your home and tune-up the air conditioner. This will include giving it a thorough cleaning, charging the refrigerant, inspecting and fixing electrical connections, and many more repairs and inspections. By ensuring that the air conditioner is tuned-up each year before the summer heat, you will ensure that the air conditioner is in peak condition and running the most efficiently. This will reduce the number of large repairs that will be needed.

2. Changing Filter. A dirty air filter can put a lot of stress on an air conditioner. This is something that is very simple to do but that people either forget about doing or do not do often enough. Depending on how often you use you air conditioner and whether or not you have pets, you will want to change your air filter ever 2 to 3 months. This will allow the air to flow more freely and the air conditioner will not experience as much stress. This will prevent malfunctions and will help the air conditioner to last longer.

3. Clean Condenser Coils. Often times debris, dust, and dirt can get into the air conditioner condensing unit. This is quite common as these units are outside and wind and rain can blow debris into these condensing units. You can take a hose and rinse out the unit. You will also want to trim trees and shrubs that are around the unit so that the air can flow without restriction. This will keep the air conditioner working and will reduce the likelihood of major malfunctions that require expensive repairs.

These are some simple things that everybody can do to make sure that the air conditioner is in great working order and that it does not break down when it is most needed.
